The Snaptain A15F is an extremely inexpensive drone with a camera that is ideal for beginners . The foldable quadcopter takes photos and videos in Full HD and offers a live transmission of the camera image (FPV) to your smartphone.

The A15F is completely gray in color. Only the propellers are matte black. The four booms can be folded up to save space during transport. When folded, the quadcopter measures 13 x 13.5 x 6 cm . When unfolded, the drone measures 37 x 32.5 x 7 cm .
There are two bright LEDs on the front , which ensure that the copter is clearly visible even at dusk. Small LEDs are also installed on the four booms , which light up white at the front and red at the back. The front LEDs can be switched on and off at the touch of a button to save energy during the day.
The drone weighs around 170 grams . However, since the Snaptain A15F has a camera, you will need drone insurance (liability insurance) as well as an eID and a drone license plate to operate it legally in Germany, and you should also have a small drone license (from January 1, 2024). The optionally attachable propeller guards should be used primarily for flights in enclosed spaces, as they protect the drone from damage in the event of collisions with walls or furniture.

The Snaptain A15F has various functions that make it much easier to use, especially for beginners. For example, the drone can be started and landed very easily at the touch of a button . In terms of speed, you can choose from three different modes .
Unfortunately, the Snaptain A15F does not have a GPS module, but it does have an optical flow sensor , consisting of a small ground camera on the underside. The camera continuously films the ground during the flight and supports the drone during flights close to the ground (lower than 10 meters).
In addition to the obligatory control joysticks, the remote control of the A15F drone has various other buttons to activate the individual functions. For example, there are separate buttons for taking photos and videos and there is also an emergency stop button for immediately switching off the brushed motors .
To view the FPV live image, the controller has a fold-out holder in which a smartphone can be conveniently attached. Before you can view the real-time image, however, you must first download and install the "Snaptain Mate" app . The application is available for both Android and iOS devices for free download from the respective app store.
To operate the controller, three 1.5 V AAA batteries or rechargeable batteries are required, which are not included in the scope of delivery.
If you want, you can also control the Snaptain A15F with just your smartphone, without a controller ( G-Sensor Mode ). However, we recommend using the remote control, especially for beginners, as this gives you more control over the drone.
Flight time and range

The flight time of the Snaptain A15F is around 12 minutes per battery. Since the drone comes with two batteries , you can enjoy up to 24 minutes of flight time before the batteries need to be recharged using the USB charging cable provided. You will be warned by a beep if the battery is too low, so you still have enough time to land.
To charge, simply connect the charging cable to your smartphone power supply or connect it directly to a PC, laptop or power bank. The charging time is approximately 90 to 120 minutes.
The control range is approximately 80 meters . The height can reach up to approximately 60 meters. The range of the image transmission does not work quite that far and varies depending on the environmental conditions. In general, it is best to always fly on a flat and open surface, as obstacles such as trees or buildings have a negative effect on the signal transmission.

The Snaptain A15F camera takes photos and videos in 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). Its field of view (FOV) is 120° and is therefore very wide-angle. Before takeoff, the camera can be manually adjusted by 60° vertically in order to capture different perspectives.
The quality of the recordings is perfectly fine for this price range, but of course it doesn't come anywhere close to the recordings of more expensive drones with cameras .
Since the Snaptain A15F does not have a slot for a memory card, photos and videos are saved directly on the smartphone. On the one hand, this is practical, but on the other hand, any image stuttering caused by a disrupted signal transmission will be included in the videos.
Flight modes
Although the Snaptain A15F is an inexpensive entry-level drone, it has a kind of Follow Me mode that enables people or objects to be tracked. Objects or people can be selected on the smartphone display and are then tracked and filmed by the drone.
However, it must be mentioned here that although the mode basically works, it is nowhere near as capable as the Active Track mode from DJI or the Follow Me modes of other major manufacturers.
The Snaptain A15F's headless mode works very well . In this mode, you as the pilot have simplified controls at your disposal. Normally, when making changes of direction to the left, right, front and back, you always have to pay attention to how the drone is currently oriented in the air, i.e. where the front of the drone is pointing. However, when headless mode is activated, this is not necessary, as the drone will always fly in the direction you press, regardless of how it is currently oriented.
However, we recommend that you do not fly in headless mode for too long and also learn how to control the drone normally, as not every multicopter has a headless mode.
Another flight mode is the circular flight function . In this mode, the drone can fly around you independently in a circle with a diameter of around five meters.

The Trajectory Flight function is also available . In this mode , you can draw a simple flight route in the app, which the Snaptain A15F will then automatically fly.
Another nice gimmick is the built-in voice control . However, it only works with selected terms in English: “take off”, “land”, “forward”, “backward”, “to leftside” “to rightside”.
There is also a simple gesture control that allows you to take photos and videos. If you form a "victory sign" with your fingers, the drone will take a photo. If you hold out your hand, it will start or stop the video recording. However, both gestures only work if you are standing about 1.5 meters away from the drone.
