The Clans of Cavallon
People live in the mountainous north of Cavallon and in the Free City. This is where the Cavallon Council is located, in which all five clans are represented. People specialize in making and trading tools and jewelry. In the Free City, the clans live together peacefully. In the rest of the country, however, ancient enmities and superstitions still dominate people's lives.
Unicorns have chosen the Black Horn forests in eastern Cavallon as their territory. They live according to the law of the strongest and are skilled hunters and warriors who keep people as slaves. Legend has it that there was once an extraordinary bond between humans and unicorns in earlier times, but since the War of Cavallon, this idea has stirred up great fear among unicorns.
The Pegasus are blamed for Cavallon's war. They are considered extremely rare and are feared as vengeful warmongers. After the signing of the peace pact, the only remaining Pegasus herd retreated to the cloud mountains in the north-east of the country. Their feathers are traded on the black market. Pegasus are extremely suspicious of all other clans.
Kelpies live in the Cold Sea in the northwest and are feared in many places. Because they pull people under water and kill them – that's what they say. In fact, water horses look creepy with their pointed teeth and powerful fish tails. However, they only hunt fish and feed on algae. After the peace pact, the Kelpies retreated to the underwater caves around the fortress island.
Centaurs live in Corlandia, south of Cavallon on the Warm Sea. They are considered the scholars of Cavallon and the rest of the clans show them the highest respect. Its capital is Coropolis, where the centaur chroniclers hoarded all the knowledge of the country. They are the only clan who can read and write, people work for them as illiterate writing apprentices. But the centaurs have made a gruesome pact and are keeping a secret that will shake all of Cavallon...
