The Pearl Castle is home to a sacred relic: the eternal fire. But one day, the mysterious necromancer Arkhton appears with his army of the undead, eager to appropriate the relic that promises him new power. But the soldiers of the Pearl Castle and the men and women who inhabit it are ready to defend their faith and their holy relic, without which all life and light are irretrievably lost. In Stronghold Undead, one player takes on the role of Arkhton, while the other player plays the defenders of the Pearl Castle. As soon as Arkhton's army of the undead breaks through the walls of the fortress before the eighth round, which signifies the sunrise by which Arkhton and his army crumble to dust, Arkhton takes over the relic and wins the game. The defenders in the Pearl Castle must hold the walls and survive the darkest night they have ever seen. Attackers and defenders begin each round by stockpiling supplies and making preparations. The attacking necromancer casts his dark magic with the help of powerful spell cards. However, each of his spells gives the defender more time to make his own preparations. The defender receives hourglasses that he can use for various actions inside the fortress or to defend against the attacks of the siege weapons and the undead on the castle walls. After the attacker's maneuvers and the assault with ranged and melee combat, as well as the regrouping of the defenders, a round ends. If the attacker has managed to break through the defensive line on at least one section of the wall, he gets inside the fortress and captures the relic. If the walls withstand the rush, a new round begins.
