A SOGEVAC vacuum pump is a device used to remove (evacuate) gases or vapours to a certain pressure level (technical vacuum).

To obtain a particular degree of vacuum, appropriate pumps or a combination of pumps are required. The choice of a pump is determined by the type and quantity of gases to be conveyed by the pump and the pump's operating pressure range and parameters. There is no single pump that can provide vacuum over the entire pressure range with acceptable efficiency.

The SOGEVAC SV 25 (A90L-0001-0425) is an oil-sealed single-stage rotary vane pump.

The suction return valve, the gas ballast valve and filter, and the oil return circuit are all integrated SOGEVAC functional elements. The pump is driven by a motor directly integrated into the casing.

The rotor, which is mounted eccentrically in the pump cylinder, has three blades that divide the pump chamber into several compartments. The volume of each compartment changes periodically as the rotor rotates.

As the rotor rotates, the inlet portion of the pump chamber expands and suckers in gas through the inlet. The gas passes through a strainer and an open check valve to prevent suction and enters the pump chamber.

As the rotor rotates further, the vane separates a part of the pump chamber from the inlet.

This part of the pump chamber shrinks and the gas is compressed. Then the gas is expelled from the chamber through an exhaust valve. The oil injected into the pump chamber serves to seal, lubricate and cool the pump.

The oil injected with compressed gas is coarsely trapped in the lower part of the oil casing. It is then filtered through the integrated exhaust gas filter elements. The proportion of oil in the exhaust gas is thus reduced below the visibility threshold (capture rate of over 99%). The oil retained in the exhaust filters is returned to the oil cycle via a check valve to prevent suction. The oil return is controlled by a floating valve.

The oil from the oil reservoir is injected directly, so that it flows through the end flange bearings and through the holes in these pump end flanges. The oil flow is ensured by the pressure difference in the pump.

When the gas ballast valve is opened, a metered amount of air, or so-called "gas ballast", enters the pump chamber. This gas ballast prevents condensation (up to the permissible vapour deviation specified in the technical data) when pumping condensed gases or vapours. Unintentional ventilation of the vacuum chamber as well as the oil sucked back in during switchover

Pump shutdown is prevented by an integrated anti-suction check valve.

When the pump is switched off, gas from the oil pump flows into the pump chamber through the opening in the exhaust valve. Since the pressure in the pump chamber is then higher than in the inlet line, the anti-suction check valve closes. The gas flowing into the pump chamber also prevents oil from entering the chamber when the pump is not in use. A fan connected to the motor creates the air flow required to cool the pump.
