The VIPOW 12 V / 9 Ah gel battery has become an alternative to classic lead-acid batteries. Unlike the latter, gel models are maintenance-free batteries. This means that they do not require electrolyte replenishment. What works in their favor is the sealed housing and the electrolyte in gel form. This guarantees that it will not leak, allowing the battery to be stored in any position and making it more resistant to shocks.
Durability of the gel battery
One of the biggest advantages of gel batteries is their lifespan. Among those available on the market, this type is characterized by the longest lifespan, as it can last for even more than a decade if used properly. Importantly, gel batteries also exhibit greater resistance to changing and extreme weather conditions.
Automatic self-discharge (25°C)
Gel batteries can be stored for many months without the need for charging. Their capacity drops to:
- 91% after 3 months
- 82% after 6 months
- 64% after 9 months
Selecting a gel battery
The right dimensions are not everything. When choosing a battery, you need to pay attention to its capacity - it should not exceed 110%, nor be less than 90% of the capacity recommended for the device you plan to power. The output voltage is also important, whose value must also be very close to the recommended (+/-0.2 V).
Applications of gel batteries
Gel batteries are used, among other things, in motorcycles, golf carts, or lawn mowers. They are also used in uninterruptible power supplies, photovoltaic systems, alarm systems, or electric toys. Moreover, these batteries can be found in vehicles with a large number of electrical devices, such as campers. They serve not to start the car, but to power electronic equipment.
Charger for gel battery
For the charger to fulfill its function well and not damage the battery, it must have appropriately set current and voltage. At different stages of charging, these values will differ from one another, which is why it is advisable to choose an automatic charger that will not only adjust the appropriate current and voltage for charging but also turn off when the battery is fully charged.
