Folic acid in the form of folate contributes to the growth of embryonic tissues during pregnancy, contributes to the normal function of the immune system, amino acid synthesis, hematopoiesis and normal homocysteine metabolism. It also contributes to the reduction of fatigue, exhaustion and supports the psyche.

L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate is a natural, metabolically active form of folic acid. Unlike the commonly used folic acid, it is well absorbed even when the gastrointestinal pH changes, and its bioavailability is not affected by metabolic defects.
In order for the body to use folic acid (vitamin B9), it must first convert it into L-5-MTHF with the help of enzymes. However, most people are unable to efficiently convert folic acid into this form, which can lead to deficiency. By using an already converted form, the potential for masking hematological symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency is reduced, interaction with certain medications is reduced, and potential negative effects of unconverted folic acid in the peripheral circulation are avoided.
